Fitness | Fitness Center Could Expand In Genoa City Hall
GENOA – The fitness center run by the Genoa Township Park District might move from the high school to city hall pending agreements among the three governmental units, Genoa officials said.
If those plans go through, the fitness center will be located on the second floor of the city building at 333 E. First St., a space that has been vacant since the city purchased the building and moved its administrative offices and police station there about four years ago, Mayor Todd Walker said.
“It’ll be nice when it’s said and done,” Walker said. “I can’t speak for the park district and they’re welcome day one, but we’re looking at several months.”
The move is awaiting final actions by all three governmental bodies involved. Tentative agreements have been drafted, and the park board likely will consider an agreement with the city when it meets Sept. 13, park district executive director Paul Bafia said.
If approved, the center will expand from about 3,000 square feet of space at the high school to about 12,500 square feet at city hall, Bafia said. Plans include building rooms for fitness classes and a child care room, plus other details that need to be worked out.
The Genoa-Kingston School Board approved a tentative agreement in July with the park district, and is awaiting the park-city agreement before taking final action.
